Strange box provided with a set of lenses and a kerosene lamp, the magic lantern was born in the mid-seventeenth century. Its role is to be projected in a dark room images painted on glass plates. With mechanical animation ever more sophisticated, the boundaries between reality and imagination disappear, and the public is increasingly fascinated - and frightened.
